"A Beautiful Embroidery"

By:

Captain Teresita Pacheco

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. [14] I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. [15] My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. [16] Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. [17] How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!          Psalm 139:13-17

The word "crochet" is rooted in the French word "croche" or "croc," which means to connect. It is presumed that the activity of crocheting began in 1500 A.C. In the beginning, it was a very exclusive activity for the wealthy families. (http:www.beadwrangler.com) People who devoted their lives to crocheting have the awesome ability to connect every single thread to make something spectacular. These laborious hands are capable of creating a "Beautiful Embroidery."

Psalm 139 is a very precious exposition of our perfect Artisan and Creator and the way He has connected every single thread of our lives to create His most precious and dear creature. David praises the name of God and the wonders of His work. Only God is able to form a masterpiece. He has done so in creating you and I. Verses 15 and 16 are the "crescendo" of this Psalm. The expression: "I was woven together." touches the inner fibers of our bodies and souls. The highlight of this Psalm is found in verse 16: "Your eyes saw my unformed body."

This is a very intimate and personal encounter with the Master of our lives. Even when we were tiny creatures, His eyes sought and found us in the depths of our mothers' wombs. His perfect hands made a beautiful embroidery when He created us.

This is one of my favorite Psalms. It describes the beginning of our lives in the form of a poem and a metaphor. Along with this awesome description is the irrefutable deed; the tiny, precious seed. Even before a human being comes out of the womb, he/she knows God as a personal Creator of life. What an intimate and sacred moment when He fixes His eyes on us and the assurance is given that we are His.

In old times, the crochet was designed only for those who may belong to a very exclusive and wealthy group. Nevertheless, you and I, by His amazing love, are a beautiful part of His perfect plan for our lives. He chose, formed, and has made delicate and precious embroidery without missing even a single, delicate thread. The result of His masterpiece is the most sublime expression of His abundant love for us, His creatures.

The next time you look at yourself in the mirror, take time to reflect on the fact that you have been embroidered perfectly and amazingly. There is a precious harmony in all the threads that belong to Him. This truly is "A Beautiful Embroidery."
