Fact? Or Truth?

by

Pearl Asperschleger

True or False:  God is always giving and for-giving!  And we are always getting and for-getting?  Isn’t it true that we often take for granted the generosity of God?  Scripture is full of good news about God’s generosity to us.

“How great is Your goodness which You have stored up for those who fear you…"(Psalm 31;19)

“They feast on the abundance of your house; You give them drink from Your river of delights”  (Psalm 36:8)

“…the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us”(Ephesians 1:8)

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us…” (I John 3:1)“and my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches”  (Philippians 4:19)

“to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…”    (Ephesians 3:20)

The words used in scripture give us such a picture of God’s open handedness to us –“lavished”  “stored up” “abundance”    “His glorious riches”    “immeasurably more.

And what results will be seen in our lives IF we receive His generosity?

“You will be made rich in every way so you can be   generous on every occasion and through us Your               generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.  This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God”  (II Corinthians 9:11-13)

So why don’t we lead more generous lives?  What are we saving ourselves for?  Let’s accept God’s generosity to us and in turn open our hands and hearts and minds to others?
