God’s Mirror

All of us are familiar with the classic fairy tale “Snow White.”  In it we can portrait the story of a wicked queen and her stepdaughter.  The queen everyday asked this question to a magic mirror “Mirror, mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all?” and the reply always was “You are, your majesty.”  As the years passed by, Snow White became a beautiful young lady and one day the mirror changed his usual reply to this one “Snow White is the fairest of them all.”

Have you ever noticed that the mirror always tells the truth?  What do you see when you look at yourself in a mirror?  Probably you will notice more or less weight on your body, wrinkles on your face or more gray hair than the last week.  Daily you face the reality of what you are when you look yourself in a mirror.  The truth of our reflection is always there.  In fact, the closer you get to the mirror, the more it reveals.  The mirror does not hide anything.

Sometimes we worry too much about the way others see us.  Always seeking for advice, maybe just to please others.  What is more important is our inner beauty, the one that is reflected when we accept Jesus Christ as the Lord of our lives.

As Christians our mirror is the Word of God (James 1:22-25).  As we study His word and see the changes in our lives as a result of being a new creature in Christ, we can experience how the Lord Jesus Christ transforms our lives into His image.  As we grow spiritually, the more we reflect His image.

It is great to watch one thing transforming into another: caterpillars become butterflies; and this transformation can happen to us.  “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (NKJV).

The mirror of God shows us every act of our lives.  The Word of God always tells the truth and we should live by it.  It is our truth and mirror.

Liz Curtis Higgs in her book  “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Have I Got News for You! says, “Mirrors and people can reflect back a distorted picture of who we really are and such images can be hurtful, untrue, and just plain discouraging.   That’s why the most accurate place to turn to is the mirror of Scripture where the clear glass of Truth is coated with the pure silver of Love.  In God’s Word, you’ll discover not only how you look to him now but also how you’ll appear in the months and years to come as you grow in him and are transformed into his image through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Each day thank the Lord for His love, mercy and forgiveness because we were fearfully and wonderfully made into His image (Psalm 139:14).
