Words to Grow On

“He doesn’t know!”
By:
Marie Larrinaga
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are
heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
One of the hardest situations I have ever had to confront was a mother who had lost a child in the 1990 Avianca plane crash.
A few of us went to the hospital with teddy bears to give to the children who were hurt in the crash. For the most part, the children were glad to see us and to receive the teddy bears. But as I entered the last room, a mother was crying as her son asked in his own language, “Mommy, where is my sister?”
With tears in her eyes, she greeted me and responded in her own language in a very low voice, “Thank you, but, he does not know that his sister is dead.”
I prayed with the mother for strength from our Heavenly Father, during her hardship and the difficult time she and the family would be facing in the days to come. After the prayer, she encouraged me with her strength and positive attitude when she responded by saying, “Yo se que Dios tiene un propósito y El me dara la fuerza para los días que vendaran.” (Translated “I know the Lord has a purpose and He will give me the strength to face the days that are to come.”)
I left the room only to burst into tears as I thought about the mother’s pain and how she was going to tell her son that his sister did not make it.
Prayer
Today, Lord, may I not take for granted the precious jewels you have placed in my life. May I be an example of your love, grace,
forgiveness and mercy to these precious jewels.
Amen.
