“I Don’t Love Her Anymore”
By:
Marie Larrinaga
(A story told to Marie Larrinaga by a dear friend.)
Can one just stop loving someone after 25 years? After sharing so much? After getting to know one so intimately that you think and act the same? “I don’t love her anymore,” were the words of someone very close and dear to me. I replied, “Run that by me again,” and he did. “Why? What happened?” He couldn’t explain it and felt I would not understand anyway. He was right. I could not understand his decision. After all, human love is unreliable! Can one really understand it?
Our Heavenly Father assures us that He loves us no matter what! And He promises to never leave, or to stop loving us. Can you fathom the idea of Jesus saying one day, “I do not love you anymore – all that I did on the cross was a big mistake – you take care of yourself and don’t bother me anymore?” Inconceivable! Yes, there is one thing that we can be sure of today; “This is how much God loved the world; He gave His Son, His one and only Son. And this is why; so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and last life.” (John 3:16-17 – The Message)
Prayer
After pondering upon all that yesterday brought and all it
has in store for me today, may I begin my day by saying, “Thank you,
Lord, for Your unconditional love! Thank you, for the grace and promise
of Your strength today in my smallest and largest of life’s crises.”.
Amen.
Editors note: This devotion was written for a Women’s Conference in 1998.

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
