Long Was the Path and

Narrow Was the Way

Ephesians. 6:10-17

A couple of months ago we went to Hawaii for our 40th wedding anniversary.  While we were there we went to the see the Waimea Falls

We were not prepared for what was ahead!!  My husband and I did not have the correct shoes or clothes on to do the walking that was required to get to the falls, but we thought, “how bad could it be”.  We had no idea what was in store.

As we were walking the path got slippery, uneven, very narrow, windy, and muddy, (and with sandals this was not easy), but of course we kept going up

We had to climb up big stones, almost like rocks and try to miss huge tree roots.  And we struggles with the slippery terrain.  As people were coming down from the Falls we kept asking “how much farther?”  They would say, “A long way but it’s worth it.?   Keep going.”

As we kept going we became weary, tired, drained, and very weak.  By the time we reached the Falls our clothes were soaking wet because of the heat and the exertion we used.  But we made it!!!!

As we came back down from the Falls I thought how this hike was so likened to our spiritual walk with God.

Our path is narrow, slippery, and uneven.  Many times we need someone to help us and encourage us.  As the people came from the Falls they kept encouraging us to “keep going. It’s worth it.”  So is our journey with God.  Keep going.  It’s worth it.  There will be times when our path is narrow, slippery, and uneven.  There will be times when we will need help.  Seek out people who will encourage you.  There will be times when you will feel weary and tired and you will feel like you can’t go any further.  Yes you can!!!  You can do it.  Don’t ever think of turning back!

Put on the full armor of God and you will be able to walk this path the Lord has planned for you.
