LOVE HURTS!

By:  Billie Faye Harvey

“This is My commandment to you, that you love one another as I have loved you”

 (John 15”12)

In his book, The Four Loves, C. S. Lewis wrote:  “To love at all is to be vulnerable.  Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly be broken.  If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one.  Wrap it carefully around with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of  your selfishness."

To love is to take risks – to open our hearts to possible hurts.  The ultimate hurts.  The ultimate hurt was Jesus  Christ’s, but He kept on loving, even at the cost of His life.  His command to us is to love as He has loved us.  While we cannot possess His perfect love, we can always be striving toward that goal.  We can keep loving even when it hurts.

To love is Christlike – even if it hurts.
