“Reflexology”

By:

Edelweiss G. Diaz

Scripture: Psalm 139

Do you know what reflexology is?  It is the application of pressure, stretch and movement to the feet and hands to affect corresponding parts of the body. By applying technique a reflexologist can break up patterns of stress in other parts of the body.

As I considered this, I thought specifically about the hand.  Although reflexologists work the hands and feet to bring healing to other parts of the body, I would say that it’s the reflexologist’s hands that make the difference.  I’m not sure whether I agree with reflexology or not, but I do believe that our hands are a very powerful part of our bodies.

As I consider this, I’m reminded of the hands that sustain me.  Psalm 139:5 says, “You hem me in – behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.”  What words of assurance and security!  The touch of God’s hands is just what we need, whatever our situation.

Several years ago, I was asked to visit a young woman who broke her neck.  As I entered into her hospital room, I had to ask God to sustain me with His hands because what I saw caused my knees to buckle.  There she lay, suspended in a huge machine.  Despite the medications she was taking, she was in much pain, and had been unable to sleep at all.  Her husband was exhausted, not having left her side for an instant.

I prayed in my heart, then I moved to her feet and began to massage them.  Dare I say that I anointed her feet and lay my hands on her, this as I asked God to lay His hands of healing upon her?!  An amazing thing happened…she fell sound asleep.  Had my hands done that?  No, it was the hand of the Lord.

There are many instances in the Bible, when the hand of the Lord was upon His servants.  The hand of God was upon the people of Judah causing them to have unity (2 Chronicles 30:10).  The prophet, Ezra, was granted everything he asked for, because the hand of the Lord God was upon him (Ezra 7:6).  Ezra also says that he took courage because the hand of the Lord was upon him (Ezra 7:28).  The list of examples could go on and on.

As I think back to my “lesson” on Reflexology, I suppose that I may call upon these folks for a therapeutic session some day. Right now I am comforted by the fact that the real touch I need for my life comes from the hand of God.

Do you need unity as the people of Judah did?  Maybe you need an answer to prayer for the things you need as Ezra did.  Or is it the courage to go on that you need?  Whatever it may be, the touch of His hand covers all.

A Prayer

I’m in His hands, I’m in Hands,

Whate’r the future holds, I’m in His hands.

The days I cannot see, have all be planned for me.

His way is best, you see; I’m in His hands.

Amen
