Words to Grow On

“There is Power in Words”
By
Gladys DeMichael
“For I know the plans I have for you, ‘declares the Lord’, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.:
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
Remember the childish riddle: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” We knew, even then, that this riddle was not true – for words are powerful, and they can hurt.
Words can bring pain, estrangement, disappointment, bitterness and sometimes anger. Some words like: cancer, divorce, addiction, illness, fatal, separation, accident cause fear, alarm and worry.
One spoken or written word can send our life into a tailspin. Being prepared for ‘that word’ (and it comes to all at some point in time) is critical for the Christian. How can we be prepared? … by fixing our minds and thoughts on God’s Word and believing what He says is the truth.
Read again this verse and meditate on the powerful words: “I know … declares the Lord … plans not to harm you … plans to give you hope and a future.”
Prayer
O Lord, enable me by your Holy Spirit, to fill my mind with
your Word and my life with your presence, so that I will
be prepared for all the challenges of this life.
I accept your plan for me, being confident of
hope and a future for all eternity.
Amen
