LIGHTS
By Rebecca Phillips
First Sunday in Advent / Your Kingdom Come – in Prophecy!
As Advent candles are being lit, this is to be read / recited. It is not necessary to quote the scripture references. Rhythmically, gently, perhaps with soft piano music underscoring.
ONE
“And God said, “Let there be light – and there was light.” Genesis 1:3
FOUR
And out of the rumblings of nothingness and hollow blackness – came light. He spoke – and it was. And is. And always will be. The same – yesterday, today, and forever.
TWO
“The unfolding of your words gives light.” Psalm 119:130
FOUR
His truth illuminates our lives – cutting through our shallow darkness, shining upon us, calling us to focus on His radiance. His light.
THREE
“Oh Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. He wraps himself in light as with a garment . . .” Psalm 104:1,2
FOUR
And He wraps us – covers us – with His garments of holiness and never ending love.
ONE
“The Lord is my light and my salvation.” Psalm 27:1
FOUR
The same hands that created the light – is the light – shielding us from blinding darkness, rescuing us from an eternal travesty.
TWO
“God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5
FOUR
His light rips through the shadowy veils of our past – our mistakes – our pain – giving us courage to step beyond the grayness of sin and in to the magnificence of freedom.
THREE
“There will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.
ONE
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light.
TWO
Those living in the land of the shadow of death –
THREE
A light has dawned.” Isaiah 9:1,2
FOUR
But will we chose to see Him? In our frailties, we sometimes cower in dark corners of pride –
ONE
“Men loved darkness instead of light.” John 3:19
FOUR
For the darkness hides our weaknesses and hidden agendas. We ache for freedom, but refuse to count the cost, willfully imprisoning ourselves to the chains of bondage.
THREE
“You are a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
FOUR
Come out from the shadows! Embrace His light. Allow His grace to cleanse and renew you – dare yourself to allow His Spirit to shine His light of conviction upon you –
ONE
“If we walk in the light as He is in the light, the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin.” John 3:19
FOUR
Be purified by clean light.
TWO
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” John 8:12
THREE
“So let us walk in the light of the Lord.” Isaiah 2:5
