Theme:
"Kingdom Power"
First Sunday in January -
Children’s Five
Based on Ephesians 5:8-21
Supplies needed: chalkboard/chalk or dry erase board/markers, eraser
Can you believe that 2003 is over – and it’s 2004? We often think of the beginning of a new year as a clean slate, a time of starting over. Have you made any New Year’s Resolutions? (You could also talk about things that were “IN” in 2003, but they are now “OUT” and the NEW things that are “IN” in 2004.)
Have you ever made a mistake? Have you ever sinned? Of course, we all mess up. Can you tell me some examples of mistakes? (List responses on board.)
God’s Word reminds us that when we sin, if we ask for forgiveness, our sins are forgiven and we are made clean and new in God’s eyes. (Erase words from board.)
(You can use this as a salvation message and invite the children to give their lives to Jesus and let Him make them clean and new. Or you can use this to talk about Christian growth and the need that we all have to be forgiven and start over.)
Memory Verse: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
(Write the memory verse on the board. Have kids recite the verse, and repeat it as you erase one word at a time.
