Decorations

Place Bibles of various sizes, colors and translations around the room. Create a central focal point by placing an open Bible and candles on a table covered with an attractive cloth.  Place posters that feature Scripture verses on the walls.  Some appropriate verses are quoted in the devotional.

Program Ideas

Ways to Memorize Scripture

  • Print scripture verses on 3 x 5 cards. Carry them with you to study when you have to wait for appointments, in the grocery line or when you are riding in a car.

  • Select a memory verse of the month.  Set aside a time during the women’s ministries meeting to review the verse.  Recognize the women who can recite the verses at the end of six months.

  • Have the women make a Scripture jar. Write verses on pieces of paper and place them in the decorated jar.  Encourage the women to choose a verse every day or once a week to memorize.

Scripture to Music

The words to many of the choruses and songs that we sing are taken almost word for word from Scripture.  Once you memorize the chorus or song, you’ve memorized the Scripture.  Choose some of the women’s favorites for a time of praising God.  Here is a list of song familiar choruses and their corresponding Scripture references:

  • “I will Call Upon the Lord” – Psalm 18:3, 46
  • “As the Deer” – Psalm 42:1
  • “Clap Your Hands All Ye People” – Psalm 47
  • “Create in Me a Clean Heart” – Psalm 51: 10-12
  • “Wash Me and I Shall Be Whiter Than Snow” Psalm 51:7
  • “Shout to the Lord” – Psalm 66
  • “I will Sing of the Mercies of the Lord” – Psalm 89
  • “I will Enter His Gates” – Psalm 100:4
  • “Bless the Lord, Oh My Soul” – Psalm 103
  • “From the Rising of the Sun” – Psalm 113

“Hallelujah Choruses,” published by The Salvation Army, CentralTerritory, lists the Scriptural reference for many of the songs in the back of their song books.

You can download, free of charge, the book of Ephesians set to music at the website; www.biblememorymusic.com

Scripture Relay Game

Before the meeting, type out several memory verses using a large, easy-to-read font.  Cut each memory verse into pieces and place in envelopes.

Divide the women into groups of three or four.  Give each group an envelope.  Instruct the women to put together the memory verse puzzle.  The first group to complete their memory verse wins a small prize.

Craft Supplies Needed

  • Colored card stock
  • Printed Scripture verses
  • Fancy cut scissors (available where scrap booking supplies are sold)
  • Double sided tape or glue sticks
  • Scrapbook cutouts, stickers, rub on transfers

Directions

Ahead of time, ask the women to provide you with their favorite Scripture verse. Prior to your meeting, type these verses on plain white paper using a large elegant font.  At the meeting give them their printed verse.  Instruct the women to cut around the words of the Scripture verse using the fancy cut scissors.  Tape or glue the Scripture verse onto the card stock and decorate with cutouts, stickers, or rub on transfers.  Frame the completed project.

God’s Word

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is God’s love letters to us.  Over and over again within its pages are told of His marvelous love for us.  One example of this is found in John 13: 34, 35, “A new commandment I give to you: Love one another.   As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”

Within the pages of God’s Word are instructions for a more abundant life. In John 10:10 Jesus says, “I have come that they might have life, and have it to the full.”  As we read and memorize God’s Word, we will get to know Him, and life will take on new meaning.

As troubles come our way, we will be reminded of the loving, protective hand of God that is revealed to us through His Word.  If we hide His Word in our hearts, as stated in Psalm 119:11, we will be equipped to defeat the devil right in his tacks.  We read in James 4:7 “submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”  Satan won’t even stick around to fight, because he knows he won’t win.

We can trust God’s Word to be true and beneficial when applied to our lives.  Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3: 16, 17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teachingm rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  Therefore, we must saturate our mind and heart with the Word of God so that the Scriptures may be brought to our remembrance when we need them.
