“Memories”

Making a Photo Memory

Take a picture of the women’s ministries group using a digital camera. Duplicate in sufficient quantities so that everyone receives a copy. Or take individual pictures of the women.

If donated frames are available, put the photographs in them. If not, use paper frames, which can be purchased over the Internet from such companies as the Oriental Trading Company, www.oriental.com or CASI/QLT, www. qlt. com (photo cards).

Memories of Today

Purchase inexpensive throw–away cameras. Appoint a woman at each table to take pictures of the day’s activities. Once they are developed, place photos in a scrapbook or combine for a bulletin board display.

Sharing a Memory

Ask the women to bring to the meeting small items that represent a special memory. Unusual or funny items will work best. Instruct the members not to share these ahead of time.

During the program have the women show what they brought and tell about the memory it represents. After they have shared, place the item in a large shopping bag. Once everyone has participated, take the items from the bag one at a time. The women must identify who brought that item and what memory it represents.

I Remember

If the group is large, break into small groups of five or six to encourage participation. Ask the women to share their memories of the following events:

*  Where did you go on your first trip and how old were you? What do you remember about it?

*  Tell the group about your first date. Where did you go? Do your remember what you wore? Do you know where that boy is today?

*  Who was your first “best friend?” Do you still keep in contact with them?

*  Can you remember your first real party? What kind was it? Do you remember what you wore?

*  Tell the group about your school days. How many schools did you attend? Did you enjoy school? Who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach? What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in school?

Autograph Book

Remember when autograph books were popular? How precious those signatures

and messages from friends were. Have the women make an autograph book that will be signed by all the women in the group. Encourage them to personalize their message to each other or include a favorite Scripture or a verse of a song that is meaningful.

To make an autograph book, cut 8 1/2" x 11" colored paper in half. Fold these sheets in half again to form the pages of the book. The number of pages needed for each book will

depend on the number of women in the group.

To make a padded cover, take light cardboard and cover it with batting and cotton material. Cut the material 1/4-inch larger than the cover. Use a glue gun to tack the material down on inside of the cover. Use another piece of material, slightly smaller,

and glue inside the cover over the seams. To fasten the book together punch two holes through the cover and the paper. Fasten with brass fasteners or thin ribbon.

Devotions

Today’s Moments, Tomorrow’s Memories

Photographs and the memories they represent have been an important part of my life ever since I can remember. I look at old photographs taken during my childhood and the memories come flooding back. I’m transported back to the days when the pictures were taken.

Nowadays I am usually the photographer, behind the scenes, creating those special snapshots that capture a moment in time and grow more precious with each passing year. Since the birth of my two children, I’ve spent hours filling their baby books and updating their scrapbooks. These books have become very important to them. Often I find my children reviewing and sharing them with their friends.

If something disastrous were to happen to our home, besides getting everyone out safely, I hope that I will have enough time to save my photo albums and memory books. Everything else can be replaced, but these things are most valued.

What about the memory books we are creating for Jesus? What pictures would be on the pages and would they bring honor to Him? What are you doing to beautify His kingdom? Can the things you say and do be written down as glorifying Him? Even behind the  scenes when no one sees, what are you doing that will make others want to know Him and be part of His eternal plan?

When most people have their picture taken, they want to project the best image. Are we doing the same for our Lord as we live each day for Him? Today’s moments are  tomorrow’s memories. What will God recall as you stand before Him on Judgment Day?

Close in prayer, using the prayer chorus “Make Me a Blessing.”
